RITUAL
The first ten minutes
4 February 2026 · 4 min read

There is a version of your morning that happens to you, and a version you choose. The difference between the two is usually about ten minutes.
Ten minutes is not a routine. It is too short to be impressive and too small to fail at. That is exactly why it works. You are not trying to build a new life before 7am. You are trying to put one thing in a fixed place so that everything after it has somewhere to start.
Pick the thing that is easiest to repeat. Water. Light. Movement. One serving of something you have already decided to take. Then put it in the same place, in the same order, at the same point in the morning.
Consistency is not discipline. Consistency is design. Make the thing obvious, make it pleasant to look at, and put it where your hand already goes.
That is the whole idea behind a ritual. Not intensity. Repetition.
